ClawBoy is an iOS client for OpenClaw, the self-hosted AI gateway. If you're already running a server, the webchat is great on desktop, but on your phone it fights you. ClawBoy is the app that actually feels like it belongs there: it's fast, gesture-driven, and built for people who talk to their lobster every single day.
The problem
If you run an OpenClaw server, you already know the webchat. On desktop it's fine; on your phone it's a little painful. There are other iOS clients out there, including the official one, and they're genuinely solid, but most feel like a web wrapper with an App Store sticker on it. I wanted something that felt like it belonged on the phone, with the small everyday details that make an app good to reach for. Because I'm talking to OpenClaw literally every day, and the friction adds up fast.
The approach
Native, not a web wrapper
The whole point is that it feels like an iOS app, not a browser tab in disguise. A swipe-to-open sidebar, gesture-driven navigation, and session management that isn't cringe: pin, rename, and delete in a tap. Streaming stays smooth through long responses, with syntax-highlighted code, collapsible thinking and tool blocks, and inline images, audio, and video.
Power-user controls under your thumb
Swap models or agents mid-conversation from pills that sit right above the input bar. One tap, no slash commands required (though they're still there when you want to feel cool). The InfoBar shows live context usage, like 14k/200k, right under your fingers, so you never guess how close you are to the ceiling. Inline reply and annotation controls let you react to a specific part of a response instead of copy-pasting fragments back into the next prompt, and multiple gateways (like home server, VPS, etc), are a Settings toggle away.
Your keys never leave the device
Your Ed25519 keypair is generated on-device and stored in iOS SecureStore; the gateway auth token never touches plain app storage. The OpenClaw handshake cryptographically signs every connection, with optional SPKI pinning for TLS. There's zero off-device tracking, analytics, or data collection, and the local chat and media cache never leaves your phone. ClawBoy connects to your server, and that's the whole story.
Details that earn a daily open
Dark mode, light mode, and a growing set of themes. Voice support both TTS for agent responses and voice recordings for you. And yes, an achievement badge system baked into a chat app: collect them, flex them on your profile, and hunt the hidden easter-egg ones. It's retention flair, unapologetically, but it makes the everyday driver more fun to open.
